I think I saw this video on the history channel several years ago. Thought about getting a carbine but prefer the garand. ;)

Each of them was an issue weapon for me.

GARAND - hands down.

I qualified with the M-1 Carbine in the AF, never shot the larger 30-06 Garand. In the late 1960's you could buy the M-1's for a song. Even through the 1970's they were dirt cheap. But look at them now.

Ain't hindsight great? Wish I had bought a truckload of them.
