Out in the deer woods this morning, heard 3 shots some distance away that were shot 'as fast as the guy could pull the trigger' as my dad would have said. There's no way that the hunter could recover from recoil, evaluate if the followup shot was needed, aim and fire again while shooting like that. Guess he expected his first two shots to miss. This is a shotgun with slug only area I might add.

That's one reason why I only bow hunt deer. The 2nd reason is I don't have anywhere to gun hunt anyway.

I bought my first crossbow because the local archery season ran Oct 1 to Feb 28 and our local gun season was eliminated forcing a 1 1/2 hour drive. Dad bought the property where I live in 80 so we would have a place to hunt. Two years later they closed it to all firearm deer hunting and also reclasified xbows as archery instead of modern gun. A few years later they openned modern gun for 2 days after Thanksgiving with the restriction of shotguns 20 ga and larger slug only or muzzleloaders. A couple more years and they legalised centerfire handguns with barrels over 4". Then they started giving us 2 weekends in the beginning of Nov, 3 days after xmas and legalized 410 slugs. Last year they changed the handgun restriction for our area to be 4"-10" barrels and straight wall pistol chamberings. Rest of the state still falls under the old rule.

I used to hunt in Upstate New York. ONe of the neibors to the property I hunted most was icknamed "boomboom" because he never just shot once. Just rattled off as fast as he could tell the gun was empty. Never heard of him missing a deer he did not like to trail themso he would hammer them with 32 specials untell he ran out of bullets.

Irresponsible hunters make all firearm owners look bad, not to mention criminal use :(

We firearm owners really need to stick together.
